What are Mosaics?

A variety of small, square glass mosaic tiles in colors including gold, white, blue, green, black, and red, scattered on a flat surface.

Mosaics are one of the oldest art forms in the world—created by arranging small pieces of glass, stone, ceramic, or other materials into patterns and images. For thousands of years, cultures across the globe have used mosaics to tell stories, honor traditions, and beautify public and private spaces.

At Mani Coa, we see mosaics as more than just decorative art. Each piece is a collection of fragments that come together to create something whole—just like people, stories, and communities. The broken becomes beautiful.

About The Artist

Helga Maribel Sanchez is a mosaic artist who transforms fragments of glass, stone, and reclaimed materials into vivid storytelling. Known for her lifelike depictions of birds and her site-specific installations, Helga bridges the natural and industrial worlds with art that speaks to memory, heritage, and renewal.

For her, every piece begins with the gaze—capturing the spirit of her subjects in a way that creates a conversation between viewer and artwork. Whether perched on a wall, embedded in reclaimed ruins, or standing as a large-scale installation, her mosaics invite people to look closer, feel deeper, and connect with stories beyond words.
